The Sister City Jazz Ambassadors a Cava PDF Stampa E-mail

Il Comitato per la promozione dei Gemellaggi di Cava, in collaborazione con il Comune di Cava de’Tirreni, comunica che dal 30 luglio al 5 agosto verrà in visita nella città metelliana il gruppo di musica jazz “Sister City Jazz Ambassadors”, proveniente dalla città gemellata di Pittsfield - Massacchusetts (USA), che si esibirà per alcune serate. Sono previste tre date per i concerti nella nostra città. Il primo concerto si terrà mercoledì 1 agosto, alle ore 21, in Piazza Abbro; il secondo giovedì 2 agosto al Club Universitario Cavese; il terzo, sempre con inizio alle ore 21, sabato 4 agosto presso il Social Tennis Club.

Si ringraziano per la collaborazione offerta, innanzitutto il Comune di Cava de’Tirreni, nella persona dell’assessore delegato ai Gemellaggi, dott. Michele Coppola, la dott.ssa Carla Angelini dell’Ufficio Gemellaggi, nonché il Presidente del Club Universitario, prof. Marcello Rescigno, il Presidente del Social Tennis Club, avv. Francesco Accarino, e la dott.ssa Patrizia Pisapia, responsabile del Comitato per i rapporti con la Città di Pittsfield. La cittadinanza tutta è invitata a partecipare. Biografia del gruppo:
Sister City Jazz Ambassadors é un gruppo jazz che ha come finalità quello di diffondere pace e amicizia per il mondo attraverso i suoi dinamici spettacoli musicali ed i suoi intenti educativi. La band è rinomata per le sue vivaci interpretazioni dei classici del jazz americano.
Il gruppo è diretto da Andy Kelly, di Pittsfield , Massachussets, USA,che asserisce che ”l’ irresistibile forza del ritmo della musica ci ricorda che siamo tutti parte di una stessa umanità e condividiamo gli stessi sogni e le stesse speranze”.
Fanno parte del gruppo Andy Kelly alla chitarra e al banjo, Charlie Tokarz al sassofono, clarinetto e flauto, Andy Jaffe al piano, Fran Curley alle percussioni e Marty Jaffe al contrabbasso.

Andy Kelly ha suonato la chitarra da professionista negli Stati Uniti e in Irlanda. Ha studiato musica al Williams College, dove si è esibito nel Williams Jazz Ensamble e Jazz Trio. Andy è un appassionato insegnante di musica ed intrattenitore nonché socio fondatore dei “Young Musicians Workshop “ e fondatore della “Sister City Jazz Ambassadors”.

Charlie Tokarz è un versatile musicista di strumenti a fiato.E’ un’ artista che si esibito alla Casa Bianca nel “Today show”, e in molti altri luoghi. Ha fondato un gruppo jazz a Sheffield, Massachussets, che si distingue per improvvisazioni di jazz standard. E’ uno stimato professore alle Steiner Hotchkiss Schools e ha ricevuto molti riconoscimenti per le sue composizioni originali. Charlie si esibisce regolarmente catturando l’interesse del pubblico.

Andy Jaffe è direttore del corso di jazz al Williams College dove insegna teoria del jazz, improvvisazione, arrangiamento e composizione e la musica di Duke Ellington e John Coltrane. Il suo libro “Armonia jazz” è ampiamente usato negli studi musicali ed è riconosciuto come uno dei migliori nel campo. Il suo ultimo CD “Tempesta imperfetta” si caratterizza per grandi  ensamble.  Gli arrangiamenti vivaci di Andy danno un tocco vibrante alla musica.

Fran Curley ha suonato la batteria per oltre 35 anni spaziando dal rock al jazz al funk al blues. E’ professore di percussioni al Berkishire Music School ed è alla facoltà del Young Musicians Workshop. E’ stato socio fondatore della Berkishire Blues Band e si esibisce negli Stati Uniti e in Europa. La personalità carismatica e il ritmo trascinante della sua batteria si impone all’ attenzione del pubblico.

Marty Jaffe ha suonato il basso per molti anni. Egli si esibisce con la Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestra e con l’ ensamble jazz Kwajmal. E’ una giovane promessa ed è il membro più giovane della Sister City Jazz Ambassadors.

 

The Sister City Jazz Ambassadors are a touring jazz group whose goal is to spread peace and friendship around the world through their dynamic musical performances and educational programs. The band is known for its lively renditions of American jazz classics. The group is led by Andy Kelly, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA, who states that " The irresistible pull of the swinging music helps us to remember we're all one human race, and we share similar hopes and dreams." Group members are Andy Kelly on guitar and banjo, Charlie Tokarz on saxophone, clarinet, and flute, Andy Jaffe on piano, Fran Curley on drums, and Marty Jaffe on double bass.

Andy Kelly has played professionally throughout the United States and on several tours of Ireland. He studied music at Williams College, where he performed in the Williams Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Trio. Andy is devoted music teacher and entertainer. He is a founding faculty member of the Young Musicians Workshop and is the founder and director of the Sister City Jazz Ambassadors.

Charlie Tokarz is a versatile woodwind player and recording artist who has performed at the White House, the Today show, and in venues around the world. He founded a jazz series in Sheffield, Massachusetts which featured group improvisation and jazz standards. He is a well-respected teacher at the Steiner and Hotchkiss Schools and has received numerous grants for his original compositions. Charlie performs regularly, delighting audiences without fail.

Andy Jaffe is Director of Jazz Studies at Williams College, where he teaches courses in Jazz theory and improvisation, arranging, and composition, and in the music of Duke Ellington and John Coltrane. His text "Jazz Harmony" is widely used in music study and is recognized as one of the best in the field. His latest CD "Imperfect Storm" features his compositions for large ensembles. Andy's colorful arrangements keep the band's music vibrant.

Fran Curley has been performing on the drums for over 35 years, spanning the musical styles of rock, jazz, funk ,and blues. He is a percussion teacher at the Berkshire Music School, and is on the faculty of the Young Musicians Workshop. He was a founding member of the Berkshire Blues Band, and performs widely throughout the United States and Europe. Fran's engaging personality and his driving drum beat capture audiences wherever he plays.

Marty Jaffe has been playing bass for many years. He performs with the Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestra and the jazz ensemble Kwajmal. He is a talented young performer who is presently touring with the Sister City Jazz Ambassadors as its youngest member.
